What is Paleo?

Paleo is not really a diet. It is more of a lifestyle. The one thing that I am excited about is the candor and integrity that Dallas and Melissa Hartwig put in their book, It Starts With Food. People think that all you are doing is eliminating. That is just one step. After the Whole30, you start to reintroduce foods back into your life. (Notice I did not say diet!)

Anyway, here is a general synopsis of the Paleo Diet:

  1. EAT REAL FOOD! – This is easy, so you would think. Real Food= Lean Meats, Seafood, Fish, Eggs, Vegetables, Fruits, Healthy Oils and Fats, Nuts, and Seeds.
  2. Here is the Oh S#!T Factor- DO NOT EAT- Grains (this includes Wheat, Corn, Rice, Buckwheat, Oatmeal, etc), Processed Foods (Doritos is not a food group!), Dairy (Do you realize where milk comes from! Do you want to put your mouth up to that and drink it fresh??), SUGAR (This is the big F-U and will be a difficult dragon to slay!), Potatoes (Sweet Potatoes are fine!), Artificial Sweetners (If you can’t read it, don’t eat it!), Fruit Juices, and Legumes (any type of bean).

Now you are thinking, “What the hell am I going to eat?” “Where is all the good stuff?”

This is where the Whole30 is coming in for me. I am trying to retrain my body. Like the Hartwig’s state in their book, it is a “reset”.

I would suggest checking out these books:

It Starts With Food, by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig. (www.whole9life.com)

The Primal Blueprint, by Mark Sisson (www.marksdailyapple.com)

The Paleo Solution, by Robb Wolf (www.robbwolf.com)
